A legion of builders
that runs itself.

Why builders
stick around

edith gives you four things you cannot get building alone.

People to build with. Pitch an idea in brainstorm or say what you need in find-a-team. Any stack. Real feedback. Show work in progress in wip and get a straight answer, not a polite one. A way to get unstuck. Talk it through in rubber-duck. Someone has hit the same wall. Somewhere to show it. Post it in ship-it, then show it live on Demo Day.

Every project starts the same way

You, an idea, and nobody to tell.

Here is what happens next, in the six hubs of one Discord server.

  1. 01 Ideas

It starts at 11pm, with an idea nobody has heard yet.

You have a folder of half-finished projects and no one to say them out loud to. So you say it in brainstorm before you write a single line, and people who build things tell you what they honestly think.

  2. 02 Build

Then you build it, in whatever stack the idea wants.

Web2, Web3, AI, hardware, design. Nobody asks you to pick a side or defend your framework. You work in web2, web3 or ai, wherever the thing you are making lives.

  3. 03 Team up

Somewhere in week two, you realise you need someone else.

A designer. A backend brain. A second pair of hands for the weekend. You say what you need in find-a-team, or you join a hackathon and meet people who are already looking.

  4. 04 Help

Then you get stuck, because everyone does.

You explain the problem out loud in rubber-duck. Often that is enough. If it is not, someone has probably hit the same wall and can point you the way round. Career questions are welcome too.

  5. 05 Feedback

And when something about the club is not working, you say so.

Request a feature, or write a proposal as an RFC in rfcs. Maintainers vote on proposals in the open, where everyone can see the result.

  6. 06 Show off

Then you ship it, and you tell everyone.

You post it in ship-it with a demo and credit the people who helped. Shipped projects get shown live at Demo Day.

Pick your interests when you join. There is a hangout for everything else, and touch-grass for when you need it.

Become a Catalyst

How an idea becomes a launch

Pitch it. Find your crew. Build in public. Get unstuck. Ship it. Launch it.

# brainstormExample post
What are you building?
A tool that turns TODO comments into tickets
Who is it for?
Developers with too many side projects
What do you need?
DesignerBackend help

Post the idea in brainstorm and get real feedback before you write a line.

# find-a-teamExample post
Looking for
FrontendDesignerML
Your stack
Next.jsPython
Time you can give
Evenings and weekends

Say what you need in find-a-team. Any stack.

# wipExample update
  • Idea posted
  • First prototype running
  • Demo recorded
This week
Cut the setup from four steps to one

Keep a build log in wip. A demo beats a deck.

# rubber-duckExample thread
The problem
Requests time out after the second call
What I tried
Retries and a longer timeout
Error: ETIMEDOUT after 30000 msMarked solved

Talk it through in rubber-duck. Someone has hit the same wall.

# ship-itExample post
  • A working demo
  • A short write up
  • Credit for the people who helped
  • What you would do next

Put it in ship-it, then show it live on Demo Day.

Launch under edithExample path
  • Shipped in ship-it
  • You are a Maintainer
  • The founder approves it
  • Runs under the edith name

The best projects launch under the edith name.

Pitch it

Post the idea in brainstorm and get real feedback before you write a line.

Everyone starts as a Catalyst

Do good work and you can open a PR to become a Maintainer.

Everyone who joins the server is a Catalyst, with full access to every public channel. Chat, ask, pitch, build and show off.

Maintainers are the permanent members who keep edith running. It is earned, not bought: 30+ days as a Catalyst and steady work, such as pull requests merged into edith's repositories, helping people and shipping something. You do not apply: Friday suggests the people who are ready and the founder approves each promotion. Maintainers vote on RFCs, lead teams, and can take client work or launch a venture under the edith name.

Built something? Post it in ship-it. The first projects land here soon.

Become a Catalyst

Build under the edith name

Join as a Catalyst, earn Maintainer, then take client work or launch a venture under edith. The founder approves each venture.

Become a Catalyst. Join the Discord, pick your interests and start pitching, building and shipping. Freelance under edith. Maintainers can take on client work under the edith name, on the terms in the docs, and share this site when they pitch. Launch under edith. Maintainers can ask the founder for approval to run a startup under the edith name.

The community decides

Anyone can suggest. Maintainers vote on RFCs. Core carries out the result.

This is a governance culture, not a blockchain. There is no token and nothing on-chain.

  • Anyone suggests
Open a feature request. Every member can, whatever their role.
  • Maintainers vote
Formal proposals go to rfcs, where Maintainers vote in the open.
  • Core carries it out
Once the vote is done, Core turns the result into action.
